It is the process of reconstruction of the breast after the mastectomy operation caused by a tumor or another disease.

In mastectomy patients who have breast losses as a result of a tumor, it is critical to be sure that the cancer cells are totally removed. It is not advised to go under breast reconstruction surgery for patients with obesity, hypertension and smoking habits.

Breast reconstruction usually requires more than a single operation. The first step can be made simultaneously with mastectomy but no matter what, it should be performed in hospital environment. On the other hand, follow up process are not necessarily performed in hospital conditions depending on the scope of the surgery. Implants that are used in breast reconstruction are balloon shaped implants filled with silicone gel or salt water. The consistency of the implants is similar with breast tissue and it gives the feel of breast during external examinations.
