Dental Aesthetics (Smile Design)
What is smile design?
Some of the treatment plans made for the alignment, color and shape of the teeth to be in harmony with the gums are called smile design.
In a personalized smile design, the age, gender, face shape and even social status of the person should be considered. In addition, while planning a smile design, it is crucial to make a planning in accordance with the patient’s expectation.
As a result, the goal in planning a smile must be;
* In line with patient expectations
* Hygienic, does not allow plaque accumulation
* It is the design and application of teeth in a natural-looking anatomy, color and alignment.
FOR WHOM SMILE DESIGN IS DONE?
A smile design can be made for anyone who are not satisfied with their smile from the age of 16-18, who have completed their dental growth and development.
WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT TECHNIQUES USED WHEN DESIGNING A Smile?
* Porcelain laminate veneer
* Zirconium coating
* Gum correction (gingivectomy)
* Composite fillings
The treatments listed above are the basic treatment techniques used in smile design. In addition to these, the dentist can apply other dental treatments if required.
All of these treatments can be applied together, or a smile design can be planned by combining several of them or applying only one treatment option.
PORCELAIN LAMINATE VENEER
These are prosthetic applications prepared from porcelain, with a thinness like artificial nails, in the desired colour and shape, and performed by making very little abrasions from the front surface of the teeth.
It is the prosthetic applications made on the teeth that are excessively damaged or have excessive crowding and cannot be corrected with orthodontic treatment, by reducing them appropriately. In this application, teeth can be produced in the colour and shape we want.
It is the treatment performed to correct the alignment of the teeth with the help of fixed or removable plates and brackets. It is also a necessary treatment to provide the correct lower-upper tooth bond, especially to gain chewing and biting functions. However, in orthodontic treatments, the desired colour and shape change cannot be achieved even if a proper alignment is provided in the patients. Therefore, it is generally a complementary treatment option in smile design.
In some cases, even a simple gingival correction can provide the desired aesthetic posture. In a smile design application in which gingival harmony is ignored in general, even if smooth and aesthetic teeth are produced as we want, the treatment will not be successful and satisfactory since we will not be able to achieve the general harmony in the smile.
This treatment application is the most important treatment stage, especially in patients with excessive gingival smile.
It is a filling application made to the teeth through bonding as an alternative to prosthetic, that is, porcelain or zirconia applications. It can be applied to the entire tooth surface as well as to complete caries, fractures and anatomically missing parts.
HOW LONG DOES A SMILE DESIGN LAST?
A person who has a smile design can use their teeth safely for a lifetime, provided regular and effective care and routine dentist checks, as in all other dental treatments.
