What are the symptoms and signs of swallowing disorder?
Various diseases or surgical attempt can cause for swallowing disorder. Common symptoms include:
- Coughing during or immediately after eating or drinking
- Making noise while swallowing during or immediately after eating or drinking
- Spending extra effort during chewing and swallowing
- Having jamming of food or liquids in the mouth
- Repetitive pneumonia after eating food or breast obstruction
- Weight loss due to not eating enough and dehydration
As a result in adults;
- Bad nutrition or dehydration
- Risk of aspiration (food or liquid entering the airway) leading to pneumonia and chronic lung disease
- Not having appetite in eating or drinking
- Embarrassment and frustration occurs in the dining social environment
