Colds and Flu

Colds and flu are upper respiratory infections and can cause similar symptoms. However, both diseases are caused by different viruses and their symptoms and severity can vary.

The common cold usually starts with milder symptoms and causes symptoms such as stuffy or runny nose, sneezing, sore throat, cough, mild fever and headache. Cold symptoms usually begin a few days later and last for a few days to a week.

The flu has similar symptoms to the common cold, but is more severe and has a sudden onset. Flu symptoms include high fever, chills, muscle aches, headache, tiredness, cough and sore throat. Flu symptoms can usually last from a few days to a week, but sometimes longer.

Colds and flu are caused by viruses that can be transmitted through airborne droplets. These viruses can be transmitted to others through airborne droplets through sneezing or coughing. They can also be transmitted if you touch surfaces with viruses with your hands, and then touch your mouth, nose, or eyes.

In terms of treatment, there are similar treatments for cold and flu symptoms. These treatments include drinking plenty of fluids, having rest, using painkillers and antipyretics, nasal sprays and throat lozenges. Antiviral drugs can also be used to treat the flu, but these drugs are only effective within the first 48 hours after the onset of symptoms.

Colds and flu usually clear up on their own and do not cause serious complications. However, in people with chronic health conditions or a weakened immune system, symptoms may be more severe and cause complications. Therefore, even if you try home remedies to control symptoms, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional if you have severe symptoms or if your symptoms do not improve within a few days.
