Skin aging, excess and sagging occur in the upper and lower eyelids, and in addition, bagging may be caused by the herniation of the fatty tissues in the lower eyelids especially. Besides the failure in aesthetic look, it may prevent someone from seeing when the upper eye lid falls off and close their eyes.
The extra skin is taken out with the aesthetic eye lid operation and also the membrane in front of herniated fat tissue is strengthened and/ or the excess fat mass is removed. In this way, we have a good look and provide patient to see better. There will be scar on the upper eye lid along the lid. However, this scar is visible, only when you look closely you may be able to see it because it will be fitted to the fold curvature. On bottom of the eye lid the scar will be below the eye lashes, the permission remains on the side as a normal skin line. The eyelids are the least traces of the human body.
The operations performs in the hospital conditions, under anesthesia specialist’s supervision and in the operating room. Local anesthesia and intravenous sedation (putting sleep by vascular access) is preferred. Based on the patient’s complaints only upper or lower eye lids seperately, or upper and lower eye lids can be operated together. Duration of the operation approximately 1 – 1,5 hour. It is possible to discharge from hospital on the same day.
After surgery the early period usually goes comfortable. There can be empurpling and swelling around the eyes. There can be dryness, burn feeling in the eyes and blurred vision. Tears may increase, eyes may get uncomfortable from the lights for a while. The patient may not be able to close her/his eyes on fist days. They are expected in the first week.
Result of the operation will come out good. Rarely a revision (another operation) may be needed. The person can go back to work in 3 days. He/ she may use contact lenses after a week. The new shape of the eye lids, because it is affected by gravity, it can last for a few years and sometimes for a lifetime, depending on the person.
